Description

Freiburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the South West of Germany. With over 400 members we are one of the most active and growing ELSA groups in our country.

Our young and highly motivated board is very much looking forward to this year in office and all the events that we have planned for our members. Moreover, we are now searching for a great destination for a Study Visit.

Freiburg can offer a diverse academic program as well as many social activities: The university was founded in 1457 by the Habsburg dynasty and is today the fifth-oldest university in Germany. It has a long tradition of teaching law, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. The university is made up of 11 faculties and attracts students from across Germany as well as from over 120 other countries. Foreign students constitute about 16% of total student numbers. Freiburg is one of the traditional old college towns of Germany and the university stands amongst Europe's top research and teaching institutions.

Our city is located close to Strasbourg inviting to visit the European Court of Human Rights and the European Parliament and close to Karlsruhe which makes visits of the German Federal Court of Justice and Federal Constitutional Court possible. The Breisgau-region is famous for its warm weather in summer and skiing facilities in winter. Thanks to its extensive winegrowing, Freiburg’s surrounding region is called the Tuscany of Germany as Freiburg is Gemany’s warmest city with the most hours of sun per year. The impressive Black Forest and its highest mountain, the Feldberg, are situated right on our doorstep as well as many lakes and the Rhein river. Moreover, Freiburg is located in the tri-border region near the French and Swiss borders enabling to pay Strasbourg and Colmar as well as Basel and Zurich a visit.
