Ireland

Ireland is well known as the Land of a Hundred Thousand Welcomes and we pride ourselves on our welcoming culture. The republic of Ireland has a population of just under 5 million people and shares the island of Ireland with Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. A study visit to ELSA Ireland therefore offers the opportunity to potentially visit a diverse range of different academic and non-academic attractions in both jurisdictions. The capital city Dublin is a hub of corporate and financial law, while the west coast offers some stunning scenery on the edge of Europe, including the Cliffs of Moher. Dublin and many of Ireland’s smaller cities also boast rich historical and cultural attractions and thriving social scenes.
Northern Ireland is one of Europe’s most interesting political jurisdictions and also offers a host of potential sites of interest, including political institutions such as the province’s ‘power-sharing’ devolved assembly as well as natural sites such as the famous Giant’s Causeway. ELSA Ireland comprises five local groups, three in the greater Dublin area – ELSA Dublin City University, ELSA Trinity College Dublin and ELSA Maynooth – one in the historic Viking harbour city of Waterford in the south-east and one in the medieval city of Galway on the west coast, which is one of the westernmost local groups in the ELSA network.
