Welcome to Macedonia- the land of Mother Teresa, Ohrid Lake and delicious food. Republic of Macedonia is a small country, situated in the center of the Balkan peninsula, natural paradise of mountains, fantastic lakes and rivers, where life moves to a different rhythm and the rich historical treasures and idyllic villages have remained practically unchanged for centuries. At the bottom of the Vodno Mountain lies Skopje, the capital of the country, city of interesting mixture of styles and different eras. From one side Skopje is a modern city with modern architecture and socialistic influence, but as soon as you cross the river Vardar, you wander back in time to the Ottoman Empire, and suddenly you are crossing the Old Bazaar, visiting medieval churches, beautiful mosques and eating traditional food. Macedonia has one natural and cultural UNESCO World Heritage- the city of Ohrid and its Ohrid
Lake. The Ohrid lake is the oldest and one of the deepest lakes in the world, and is home to more than 200 endemic species that haven’t been found at any other place in the world. At one point in time, Ohrid had 365 churches, one for every day of the year and is still famous as the Jerusalem of the Balkans.

What makes Macedonia a great place to visit are the delicious cuisine and great wine. It’s more and more famous as a “foody” destination. It’s really interesting, welcoming and affordable!

ELSA Republic of Macedonia is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization, and the only NGO in Macedonia, that is fully committed to law students as its own target group. It was founded on September 5, 1997 in Skopje, by a group of young enthusiasts, law students, as part of the ELSA network. At the International Council Meeting held in Opatija, Croatia in 1998,
our national group was recognized as a full member of ELSA International, under its constitutional name.

ELSA Republic of Macedonia doesn’t have any local groups yet. Our registered seat is on the “Iustinianus Primus” Faculty of Law in Skopje. Today, we have approximately 300 members.
