ELSA Lublin
Lublin is placed in eastern Poland, 50km away from the border of the country. The city is commonly called as the Gate of the East, not only because of closeness of UE borders, but also of being a place where different cultures meet and commingle which has been happening through the ages and takes place also currently.
In 2017 we were celebrating 700 years since Lublin got its city law. Since that moment it has been a witness of several historic events. There the Union between Poland and Lithuania in 1569 was taken, the major court for polish noblemen was situated, and after the First World War Lublin was the first headquarters of polish government. There was also an important centre of Torah study - Chachmei Yeshiva.
Nowadays, being aware of the great history of Lublin, we take care of it and try to maintain a cultural diversity of the city. A lot of events which attract many foreigners take place in Lublin, e.g. Carnaval Sztukmistrzów, European Festival of Taste, CODES Festival, The Jagiellonian Fair. Naturally most of them visit the Old Town with many monumental buildings. Nearby there are also a castle and Trynitarska Tower with the highest city’s viewpoint. As the biggest city at the right side of Vistula (340.000 citizens).
Lublin is also a great and important polish academic center. Students can choose one of 5 public universities and also a lot of non-public ones. Presently in Lublin there are about 70.000 studying people and many of them are foreign students. That fact is one of many which can confirm an opinion about city’s multiculturalism. All that affect on incredible atmosphere in Lublin and enhance the quality of city’s tourist offer.
Lublin for sure is a place worth visiting. If you visit it once, we guarantee you will want to come here again. For encouragement watch a short video from the last edition of Night of Culture- and FALL IN LOVE WITH LUBLIN. :)
