Austria

Welcome to the heart of Europe!

Embedded in the Alps, drained by the blue Danube you can find the small but mighty country of Austria with its 8.3 million inhabitants. As a federal republic, Austria is comprised of nine independent federal states or provinces: Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Vienna, which are all very unique in inherend natural beauty as well as in language (every region has its own dialects!!) and traditions.

With its harsh peaks of the Alps in the West to lovely hills in the centre to the ample basins with our vibrant capital, Vienna in the East, Austria welcomes you with a breathtaking diversity of landscapes. From Mozart to Falco, from “Dirndl and Lederhosn“ to the suits of the Vienna Opera Ball, from Herman Maier to David Alaba, from Schloss Schönbrunn to the Vienna International Centre (VIC) – Austria is the place where tradition meets the future.”

As Austrian law students founded ELSA together with law students from Germany, Poland and Hungary 1981 in Vienna, ELSA Austria has been a part of the ELSA network since the very beginning of our Association.

Today ELSA is represented in Austria with about 4,500 members in 6 local groups: ELSA Vienna, ELSA WU Vienna, ELSA Graz, ELSA Linz, ELSA Salzburg and ELSA Innsbruck. Please feel free to discover the special regional features and opportunities of a visit to each of our different local groups by clicking on the respective Link at the bottom of the page!!

We organize 3 Summer Law Schools – in Vienna, Innsbruck and a combined one in Graz and Vienna – and even one Winter Law School in Innsbruck. Other flagship projects are our legal Journal the “ELSA Austria Law Review“, the Antitrust Moot Court and our yearly National Institutional Visit to Brussels, The Hague or other institutional centres of Europe. Since 2018 ELSA Austria has its own office which is located in Vienna and you can also visit!

So, if you ever wanted to visit the country of one of ELSA’s founders, meet great people in a traditional but vibrant environment and taste Burning Mozart, our legandary National Drink, don’t hesitate to contact us.

See u!“
